Heads up Halifax, Nov. 5 is Crosswalk Awareness Day

Friday, Oct. 31, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Residents will get a heads up on crosswalk safety next Wednesday, Nov. 5, as members of the Crosswalk Safety Advisory Committee, local councillors, and community volunteers including police, are joining together to help educate motorists, cyclists and pedestrians on crosswalk safety.

Crosswalk Awareness Day was created to encourage drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to be cautious, and avoid distractions when approaching or using a crosswalk. This event is being held in conjunction with a new crosswalk safety awareness campaign launched last week called Heads Up Halifax.

Crosswalk Awareness Day volunteers will be dispersed throughout the Halifax region at approximately 20 marked crosswalks and intersections from 8:30-9 a.m. on Nov.5, and will be sharing crosswalk safety tips and handing out Heads Up Halifax promotional giveaways including stickers, armbands, and temporary tattoos. A map showing the locations of volunteers will be posted at halifax.ca/headsuphalifax on Monday, Nov. 3.

Residents are encouraged to learn more about crosswalk safety by visiting our website, spreading the word online by using #HeadsUpHalifax on Twitter and Facebook, or showing support by participating as a community volunteer.
