Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency to hold firefighter celebration of service

Friday, May 30, 2014 (Halifax, NS) - Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency is inviting members of the public to its 3rd Annual Firefighter Celebration of Service – Past & Present.

The event will take place on Sunday, June 1, and will honour all firefighters across the Maritimes.

Firefighters depend on support from their communities and this service provides an opportunity for the public and firefighters to join together to honour and show support for the dedication of our first responders.

Firefighters from the Maritime provinces will assemble at 9:30 a.m. in front of St. Stephen’s Elementary School (3669 Highland Ave.) in Halifax, and march to St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church (3751 Robie St.) for the 10:30 a.m. church service.

Motorists are advised there could be some traffic disruptions during this time.

Participating in the ceremony will be members of Maritime fire departments, including Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency, Fredericton Firefighters Pipes & Drums, Halifax DND, and 14 Wing Greenwood.

Lt.-Gov. J.J. Grant will also be in attendance to honour current and former firefighters.

The parade will leave St. Stephen’s Elementary School at 10 a.m. and there will be four firefighting apparatus parked in front of St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church during the service & reception.
