Overnight parking ban will be enforced 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Friday, January 3
Thursday, January 2, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Please be advised the overnight winter parking ban will be enforced from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, while municipal operations works to clear the streets and sidewalks of snow and ice.
Vehicles must be off HRM streets during these hours to accommodate effective clearing operations. Residents should also be aware that under Section 139 of the provincial Motor Vehicle Act, tickets can be issued and vehicles can be towed any time they are parked in a manner that interferes with snow clearing.
Current forecasts are calling for periods of snow beginning overnight and continuing tomorrow with blizzard-like conditions.
The overnight winter parking ban is in effect until March 31, 2014. However, it will only be enforced during declared snow and ice events, such as this impending storm.
The easiest way to be prepared is to sign up for parking ban notifications through CityWatch. Fill out a registration form at www.halifax.ca/snow/parkingban, email contacthrm@halifax.ca or call 3-1-1. Subscribers will receive timely alerts by phone, email, and/or text message when the ban is in effect and again when it is lifted. Residents who received these notifications last winter will continue to receive the service this year. Standard text messaging rates apply.
