Cancellation of curbside garbage, organics, and recyclables collection – facility closures

Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Due to the forecasted major winter storm event and expected poor weather and road conditions, curbside collection of garbage, organics, or recyclables in areas normally scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 will be CANCELLED and re-scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014.

Normally scheduled bi-weekly pick-up for next Friday, Jan. 10 will not be interrupted by tomorrow’s cancellation. In other words, if you would normally have organic pick-up on Friday Jan. 10, that will continue.

Residents are reminded to place materials curbside the evening prior to collection day or by 7:00 a.m. on collection day to ensure materials are picked up.

HRM would also like to advise the public and commercial solid waste haulers that due to the expected major winter storm event, the following facilities will be CLOSED tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 3, 2014:

  • The Otter Lake Waste Processing & Disposal Facilities at 600 Otter Lake Dr.
  • The Materials Recycling Facility at 20 Horseshoe Lake Dr.
  • The Composting Facilities at 80 Gloria McCluskey Ave. in Burnside and 61 Evergreen Place in Goodwood

These solid waste facilities will be open regular (weekday) operating hours on Saturday, Jan. 4 and Saturday, Jan. 11.

HRM apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks you for your co-operation.
