Change your clock, change your batteries
Friday, Oct. 31, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency (HRFE) reminds residents when you change the time on your clocks this weekend (Sunday, Nov. 2) remember to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
Only working smoke alarms save lives. You should have an alarm on each level of your home and near sleeping areas.
If you need a smoke alarm and can’t afford it, HRFE has a program that will provide residents with one for free. The program is called ‘Armed and Ready’ and more information can be found here (www.halifax.ca/fireprevention/alarmed.php).
Firefighters see dozens of cases each year where people have smoke alarms but no batteries in them. The biggest culprit: people take out the batteries to use for something else.-30-
