County of Halifax Council Minute Indexes

These typed indexes were created by the County Clerk's Office. Until 1960, entries are high-level and do not cover the details discussed at each meeting. You have two ways of searching the indexes:

  • If you know the approximate years you are interested in, open each individual index below:
    1. Select the year of interest from the list below
    2. Do a search (Find) for relevant keywords (use terms contemporary to that time period (eg. Gottingen St., alderman), try different spellings).
  • OR, to search all indexed years:
    1. Go to Google.ca
    2. Enter "site:http://legacycontent.halifax.ca/archives/CountyIndexes_your search term" (where _ is a space).

This will limit your search to the contents of this page. We apologize for this cumbersome temporary search mechanism, a better tool is in the works.

If you get results, note the month, year and page number and then go to the Minutes list to find the relevant minute.

If you do not get expected search results, you may need to scan through the index with your eye. (Because some of the indexes have been scanned from microfilm, the quality may be poor and thus search results will not be accurate.
