Business Arising : Craig has not yet written the letter to Peter Kelly re: exterior design and input from the community. He was waiting until after the July 8 th deadline that HRM Council had set with regards to decisions on the future of the plants.
|
3. | Update : • Design Options: No decisions have been made by HRM with regard to the treatment plants themselves. Craig indicated that Dan O'Halloran had stated during a Water and Wastewater Management Symposium on July 16, 2003 that the site of the Halifax was unlikely to change. HRM will contract Dexter Construction to construct the collection system. • CIF Options: Foundation Proposal: There is nothing to add with regard to the foundation proposal. The consensus was to further explore the Community Development Corporation (CDC) idea. Craig stated that he had searched online for examples of CDCs and had found many different types of CDCs both in Canada and the US. An example of a CDC is New Dawn Enterprises in Cape Breton. Craig will add the web link for this idea to the meeting notes. New Dawn Website:http://www.newdawn.ca/ Sharon will work on arrangements to bring Rankin McSween from New Dawn to a future CLC meeting. Sharon also has included the following websites for information on community development. Web page for University of Missouri: http://muextension.missouri.ed/ Web page for Coady Institute:www.stfx.ca/institute/coady/ie_index.html |
4. | Other Business: Craig was asked to participate in a panel discussion on water and wastewater management on July 16, 2003. Craig gave a half hour presentation from a community perspective. He touched on lessons learned and on the issues that ought not to be overlooked such as community interests and needs. He talked about how the municipality failed to recognize the unique qualities and characteristics inherent in the three host communities in HRM. Craig also described the make up of the Halifax CLC. The audience was comprised of municipal government people and people from the private sector.
