Skip to content. Accessibility info.To search Council Minutes, it is most efficient to start by searching the Indexes to Council Minutes.
Your index search results show which minute(s) and page number(s) are of interest. Return here to open the relevant meeting minutes below.
Alternatively, if there is no index available, or you did not get any index results, you can search directly in the digitized minutes in one of two ways:
This will limit your search to the contents of this page. We apologize for this cumbersome temporary search mechanism, a better tool is in the works.
Note on accuracy of searches: The digitized copies of minutes provided here were scanned either from the original handwritten or typed minute-book or microfilm of the originals. Searching is possible only to the degree that the words can be recognized by a computer. This accuracy depends on the quality of the microfilm and is not possible for hand-written text (1873-1904). Starting with a search of the indexes, will give the best results, but if you need to be completely thorough, you may need to browse directly in relevant minutes.
Before every meeting of Council the Clerk provided councillors and aldermen with documentation submitted by staff or others that was relevant to the agenda. These reports, petitions, correspondence, plans, etc. are often needed to fully understand the issue discussed.
